Watching a Pond Grow

May 2007

The pond began to really take off in May as the days got warmer and the sun got stronger. Late April early May we got our first frog in the pond and it stayed with us all summer along with other ones showing up at times. Below is a picture from early on when it arrived, only a week or two after we made the pond!

The plants grew lots and we also continued to buy lots of plants to help the pond fill up.

During May we also began to think about what was going on around the pond alot more too. We made a bog garden which you can see at the beach end of the pond. We planted this up originally with a few grasses and a hosta etc but by mid-June we had changed the whole layout and moved the hosta into the gravel. Also I added some Carnivorous plants which is another of my interests into the bog you can see a picture of the them on the June page.

Above is the bog and the beach area, a few grasses have been added to the beach here but we added more later and the bog layout changed completely by the end of June. The bog was basically just a hole then we filled it will extra liner about two thirds of the way up to hold some water. Our soil is clay so it is good for a bog.
